“We’re people, not separatists or militants!” VIDEO

Interview with former resident of Iliovaisk city. She is now superintendent-volunteer at a TAF — temporary accommodation facility — for refugees in Khartosyzsk, DPR.

Vox Populi Evo

Partial transcript:

“If you have a chance to talk to us, residents of Donbass, in person, in Internet or via Skype, don’t miss this opportunity.

Because there is no one besides us who lived through this misery, nobody will tell you the truth, whatever bitter and hard truth it is. But this is the truth, and the truth is….what for?

For what are our cities being destroyed, and our children are dying?

For what are our elderly dying?

Why?

Why are you declaring us some sort of subhumans?

Why should we be deprived of the possibility to speak our native language?

…Despite the Minsk agreements, there is no truce. We don’t see it.

…People have nowhere to return to. They had everything, saving and building their whole life, building their lives, raising children. And they were deprived of all that in one instant. Simply taken away.

Like helpless kittens and puppies get thrown away, we were thrown away out of normal, stable life.

Interviewer: I represent international media resource Vox Populi. What would you like to say to our international viewers, people in Europe, America, Canada, Australia?

I’ll repeat the same thing: if you have a chance to get in touch with us, residents of Donbass, territory considered to be “seized by militants”, don’t miss the opportunity.

We are not separatists and not militants as we were declared for the whole world. We are just people who fight for their freedom and right to have their own opinion.”

Pro-Ukrainian journalist: Odessans massively share pro-Russian sentiment

From Fort Russ

The vast majority of Odessa residents share pro-Russian sentiment both in secret and explicitly. This conclusion was stated by Ukrainian journalist Roman Bochkala.
On Friday, the journalist published a post on his Facebook page where he, as a “true patriot”, is outraged by the mindset of his fellow citizens. He noted that he has recently met people sympathetic to Russia too often.
“Maybe it’s their terrible roads or their misery (quote from Ukrainian propaganda about Russia – O.R),  I don’t know exactly what pulls these people to the Russian Federation, but it is a fact: “Kiev is to blame for the war, we just need to pick off this gang (actual power – O.R). Why do they forbid Russian films”, wrote Bochkala on his page.

In addition, the journalist posted a photo of a man on a bicycle with the inscription “Russia” on his windbreaker, with two children on the trunk.

“I met this one on the bicycle in Kiliya district. Of course, if two kids were not on his bike, our conversation would have been different,” said Bochkala. However, later, under his same post, several people asked, What kind of conversation would it have been? Would you have burnt him like in Odessa tradition?”
Apparently, inhabitants of Odessa began to grow tired of the incessant clowning in government circles. In the end, we can continue to have propaganda, public relations, debates, and political clashes, but sometimes there is need to deal with the case. We can’t go very far only with promises and populism.
Recall how the Governor of Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili almost brought a situation to the city that could have catalysed civil war, at the time when there were mass protests against the mayor Trukhanov. Then at this time he spoke about the future disintegration of the state.
Earlier, Pravda.Ru reported about the unwillingness of Saakashvili to at least identify himself with Odessa people’s aspirations and preferences. On the day of the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of Odessa from Nazi invaders, on April 10th, when citizens took to the streets to honor the memory of Soviet soldiers who returned the freedom of the hero-city at the cost of their lives, the Governor was pointedly taking care of “more important” business.
It is important to note that the current Ukrainian authorities certainly are aware of the real mood of the citizens, just like they were aware when they were discussing the situation about Crimea in 2014 at the Council meeting. Here’s another question: is the junta aware that their power can’t be held on the tip of the bayonets for a very long time?

Double standards regarding international law; the “Happy Easter” bombings of Belgrade

From Voice of Russia

West countries had their interests in bombing Yugoslavia – expert

West countries had their interests in bombing Yugoslavia - expert

On April 16, 1944, British and US allied forces carried out air attacks in the capital of Yugoslavia, Belgrade. That day the country was celebrating the Orthodox Easter. The bombing was carried out by 600 aircraft and lasted for three days. More than 1,000 civilians died as a result of the attack. One of the unexploded bombs was said to have the inscription, “Happy Easter”. The Voice of Russia talked to Boris Malagursky, a Serbian-Canadian film director, producer and screenwriter.

The situation was repeated on Easter in 1999 when US-led NATO forces carried out another bombing on several civilian targets. NATO ignored the Pope’s request to not bomb Belgrade during this holy day.

How did the allied US and UK forces explain their bombing of Belgrade in 1944?

It is an interesting fact, you talked about how many times Belgrade was bombed, and interesting fact is that Belgrade was destroyed over 40 times in the history, and whatever the Nazis bombed in 1940s, there was Yugoslavia ally in 1944 because they were fighting Germans that had occupied Belgrade and Yugoslavia. And it is interesting that in 1941 it was April 6th when Nazis bombed Belgrade and then again in 1944 it was bombed by the west who wanted to liberate it. It ended up destroying most of the city.

Why, do you think, the international community turned a blind eye on the death of 1,160 civilians as a result of those attacks?

It is really interesting that you mentioned Easter holiday. There is one photo of a bomb that didn’t explode that was dropped by NATO that had a writing “Happy Easter”. First you have to define what the international community is. You look at the western world and you think of them as an international community, and whatever they think is right, they basically propagate it to international community. In a sense not everybody agrees with NATO bombing. Western countries think this is a price for future intervention.

Now it is interesting that suddenly when a part of Ukraine declared independence and decided to join Russia, in case of Crimea, suddenly the so-called international community is in shock, how can somebody do that. Other countries started talking about international law, and I thought to myself where those talks about international law were before. It is no wonder that they turned the blind eye. They had their interests in bombing Yugoslavia. In case of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine they are not very happy about what is going on. So, they talk about international law. It is a game of double standards that has been going on for a while now.

B-52 used to bomb Yugoslavia deployed to Russia’s borders

The exercises that are currently being held in the Baltic States will involve two US air force B-52 bombers. This bomber participated in the operation against Yugoslavia in 1999.
US bombers were deployed to Europe to participate in NATO exercises Baltops 2016 and Saber Strike 2016 in the Baltic. It was originally intended to send three aircraft, however, one of them flew to Estonia because of a breakdown, said a source to “Interfax”.
The bombers with the tail numbers 60-0037 and 60-0044 were deployed to the Fairford airbase in the UK in 1999, where they were used in combat missions against targets in the former Yugoslavia.
Recall that in history there is an unpleasant fact. During the bombing of Belgrade, the US military wrote a message on the bombs: “Happy Easter!” These bombs then destroyed Orthodox churches.
It is worth noting that in response to the activation of the NATO exercises, Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu announced large-scale events for the preparation of the Russian army. This summer it is planned to hold more than 2000 different drills.

The U.S. Army’s war over Russia — Pentagon insiders expose “sky is falling” hype

…in early March, Breedlove, who declined to comment for this article, told a group of Washington reporters that Russia had “upped the ante” in Ukraine with “well over a thousand combat vehicles, Russian combat forces, some of their most sophisticated air defense [units and] battalions of artillery.” The situation, Breedlove said, “is not getting better. It is getting worse every day.”

The problem with the Breedlove report, according to a senior civilian Pentagon adviser, was that it wasn’t true. “I have no idea what the hell he’s talking about,” he told me. That comment echoed statements coming from Berlin, where advisers to German Chancellor Angela Merkel characterized Breedlove’s comments as “dangerous propaganda.”

And the difference between the present situation and the Civil War example below is profound — Russia isn’t attacking the US or any European country. But the US and many European countries view themselves as at war with and practically under siege from Russia. That pathological and rabid Western worldview is of extreme danger to the entire earth, due to the weapons of mass destruction they have at their fingertips, the powerful positions they hold, and the men and women under their command.

From Politico

Top brass profess to be really worried about Putin. But a growing group of dissenters say they’re overreacting to get a bigger share of the defense budget.

By Mark Perry

During the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864, a unit of Robert E. Lee’s army rolled up some artillery pieces and began shelling the headquarters of Union commander Ulysses S. Grant. When one of his officers pleaded that Grant move, insisting that he knew exactly what Lee was going to do, Grant, normally a taciturn man, lost his temper: “Oh, I am heartily tired of hearing about what Lee is going to do,” he said. “Some of you always seem to think he is going to turn a double somersault, and land in our rear and on both of our flanks at the same time. Go back to your command and try to think what we are going to do ourselves, instead of what Lee is going to do.”

The story was recalled to me a few weeks ago by a senior Pentagon officer in citing the April 5 testimony of Army leaders before a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee. The panel delivered a grim warning about the future of the U.S. armed forces: Unless the Army budget was increased, allowing both for more men and more materiel, members of the panel said, the United States was in danger of being “outranged and outgunned” in the next war and, in particular, in a confrontation with Russia. Vladimir Putin’s military, the panel averred, had outstripped the U.S. in modern weapons capabilities. And the Army’s shrinking size meant that “the Army of the future will be too small to secure the nation.” It was a sobering assessment delivered by four of the most respected officers in the Army—including Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, his service’s leading intellectual. The claim is the prevailing view among senior Army officers, who fear that Army readiness and modernization programs are being weakened by successive cuts to the U.S. defense budget.

But not everyone was buying it.

“This is the ‘Chicken-Little, sky-is-falling’ set in the Army,” the senior Pentagon officer said. “These guys want us to believe the Russians are 10 feet tall. There’s a simpler explanation: The Army is looking for a purpose, and a bigger chunk of the budget. And the best way to get that is to paint the Russians as being able to land in our rear and on both of our flanks at the same time. What a crock.”

The Army panel’s assessment of the Russian danger was reinforced by an article that appeared in these pages two days later. The article reported on an expansive study that McMaster has ordered to collect the lessons of Ukraine. It paraphrased Army leaders and military experts who warn the Russian-backed rebel army has been using “surprisingly lethal tanks” and artillery as well as “swarms of unmanned aerial vehicles” to run roughshod over Ukrainian nationalists. While the reporting about the Army study made headlines in the major media, a large number in the military’s influential retired community, including former senior Army officers, rolled their eyes.

“That’s news to me,” one of these highly respected officers told me. “Swarms of unmanned aerial vehicles? Surprisingly lethal tanks? How come this is the first we’ve heard of it?”

The fight over the Army panel’s testimony is the latest example of a deepening feud in the military community over how to respond to shrinking budget numbers. At issue is the military’s strategic future: Facing cuts, will the Army opt to modernize its weapons’ arsenal, or defer modernization in favor of increased numbers of soldiers? On April 5, the Army’s top brass made its choice clear: It wants to do both, and Russia’s the reason. But a growing chorus of military voices says that demand is both backward and dangerously close-minded—that those same senior military officers have not only failed to understand the lessons of Afghanistan and Iraq and embrace service reform, they are inflating foreign threats to win a bigger slice of the defense budget.

Joe Biden sends greetings to Savchenko upon release; Poroshenko tells her to visit European leaders

Poroshenko Asked Savchenko to Hold Meetings With European Leaders

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
29th May, 2016
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, at a meeting with Nadezhda Savchenko, who was sentenced to 22 years in jail in Russia for the murder of VGTRK journalists in Donbass, and after being pardoned she returned home, asked her to visit a number of European countries and to hold meetings with European leaders.
According to reports on Saturday from the press-service of the Ukrainian President, Poroshenko gave Savchenko greetings from the Vice-President of the US Joseph Biden and the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz“.
“The President proposed Nadezhda (Savchenko) to visit a number of European countries and hold meetings with European leaders,” stated the message.
For her part, Savchenko said at the meeting that she is ready to join the work in the international sphere. The liberation of Ukrainian prisoners was also discussed at the meeting. According to Poroshenko, this work should be intensified.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Wednesday to pardon Nadezhda Savchenko, who was sentenced in Russia to 22 years for the murder of VGTRK journalists in Donbass. After a request for her pardon, the Russian head of state addressed the relatives of the dead Russians. Putin expressed hope that such a decision was dictated by humanitarian considerations, and will contribute to reducing the conflict in the southeast of Ukraine.
After the pardon, Savchenko was brought to Kiev. On the same day, citizens of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Yerofeyev and Yevgeny Aleksandrov, who were earlier convicted on charges of terrorist activities in Ukraine, arrived in Moscow by a Rossiya Airlines plane after being pardoned by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

Information released on June NATO exercise in Kherson

From Fort Russ

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
31st May, 2016

[Disclaimer: This information has not been confirmed by NATO or related persons or bodies]
During the intelligence activities by the “Odessa” brigade it became known that military exercises under the auspices of NATO will be held on the territory of the Kherson region in the first half of June. Such countries as Ukraine, USA, Turkey, and other contingents of NATO forces will take part.
Military equipment and heavy weapons involved in the above event will arrive and be unloaded at the deep-sea ports of Odessa and Nikolaev. With the above mentioned ports, it will spill over into the territory of Kherson region, namely the venue of military maneuvers.
One of the notable nuances is that the Western-controlled media is silent about these exercises. This occurs despite the fact that previously such plans were preceded any public statements or publication in the news.
In addition, another factor is that the accumulation of troops and military equipment will be in close proximity to the state border with the Russian Federation, namely the Crimean Peninsula.
Also, attention should be paid to the fact that over the past week Israeli vessels, in very small volumes and with an urgent speed, exported concentrated vegetable oil and grain through the Nikolaev seaport. It was very similar to the desire in short notice to remove liquid assets from certain territories. At the same time, given the agility of the Israelis, all this can have an ulterior motive.
The “Odessa” brigade focused on the fact that because of a combination of the information received in light of the aggressive policy of the West, the vassal government in Kiev, and also the created and supported armed groups, it looks quite alarming. Thus, there is a definite probability of a possible aggravation of the military-political situation in the southern regions of Ukraine in the form of armed aggression against the Russian Federation, namely Crimea.

Six giant corporations control the media, and Americans consume 10 hours of ‘programming’ a day

Global Research, May 31, 2016
Media-War

If you allow someone to pump hours of “programming” into your mind every single day, it is inevitable that it is eventually going to have a major impact on how you view the world.  In America today, the average person consumes approximately 10 hours of information, news and entertainment a day, and there are 6 giant media corporations that overwhelmingly dominate that market.

In fact, it has been estimated that somewhere around 90 percent of the “programming” that we constantly feed our minds comes from them, and of course they are ultimately controlled by the elite of the world.  So is there any hope for our country as long as the vast majority of the population is continually plugging themselves into this enormous “propaganda matrix”?

Just think about your own behavior.  Even as you are reading this article the television might be playing in the background or you may have some music on.  Many of us have gotten to the point where we are literally addicted to media.  In fact, there are people out there that become physically uncomfortable if everything is turned off and they have to deal with complete silence.

It has been said that if you put garbage in, you are going to get garbage out.  It is the things that we do consistently that define who we are, and so if you are feeding your mind with hours of “programming” from the big media corporations each day, that is going to have a dramatic affect on who you eventually become.

These monolithic corporations really do set the agenda for what society focuses on.  For example, when you engage in conversation with your family, friends or co-workers, what do you talk about?  If you are like most people, you might talk about something currently in the news, a television show that you watched last night or some major sporting event that is taking place.

Virtually all of that news and entertainment is controlled by the elite by virtue of their ownership of these giant media corporations.

I want to share some numbers with you that may be hard to believe.  They come directly out of Nielsen’s “Total Audience Report“, and they show how much news and entertainment the average American consumes through various methods each day…

Watching live television: 4 hours, 32 minutes

Watching time-shifted television: 30 minutes

Listening to the radio: 2 hours, 44 minutes

Using  a smartphone: 1 hour, 33 minutes

Using Internet on a computer: 1 hour, 6 minutes

When you add all of those numbers together, it comes to a grand total of more than 10 hours.

And keep in mind that going to movie theaters, playing video games and reading books are behaviors that are not even on this list.

What in the world are we doing to ourselves?

The combination of watching live television and watching time-shifted television alone comes to a total of more than five hours.

If you feed five hours of something into your mind day after day, it is going to change you.  There is no way around that.  You may think that you are strong enough to resist the programming, but the truth is that it affects all of us in very subtle ways that we do not even understand.

And as I mentioned above, there are just six giant corporations that account for almost all of the programming that we receive through our televisions.  Below is a list of these six corporations along with a sampling of the various media properties that they own…

Fortunately, those enormous media conglomerates do not have quite the same monopoly over the Internet, but we are starting to see a tremendous amount of consolidation in the online world as well.  Just check out these numbers

Overall, the top 10 publishers — together owning around 60 news sites — account for 47% of total online traffic to news content last year, with the next-biggest 140 publishers accounting for most of the other half, SimilarWeb found.

The biggest online news publisher for the U.S. audience was MSN, owner of MSN.com, with just over 27 billion combined page views across mobile and desktop, followed by Disney Media Networks, owner of ESPN and ABC News, with 25.9 billion.

The battle for the future of this nation is a battle for the hearts and minds of individuals.

And it is hard to see how things will be turned in a dramatically different direction as long as most of us are willingly feeding our hearts and minds with hours of “programming” that is controlled by the elite each day.

The good news is that there are signs of an awakening.  More Americans than ever are becoming disenchanted with the mainstream media, and this is showing up in recent survey numbers.  Here is one example

Trust in the news media is being eroded by perceptions of inaccuracy and bias, fueled in part by Americans’ skepticism about what they read on social media.

Just 6 percent of people say they have a lot of confidence in the media, putting the news industry about equal to Congress and well below the public’s view of other institutions.

As Americans (and people all over the world) have lost confidence in the mainstream media, they have been seeking out other sources of news and entertainment.  This has greatly fueled the rise of the alternative media, and the dozens of websites all over the Internet where this article will ultimately be published are examples of this explosion.

You can only enslave people for so long.  Ultimately, they will want to break free of the chains that are holding them back and they will want to find the truth.

In this day and age, it is absolutely imperative that we all learn to think for ourselves.  If you find that you are still addicted to the “programming” that the giant media corporations are feeding you, I would encourage you to start unplugging from the matrix more frequently.

In the end, you will be glad that you did.
