The leader of the Mukachevo cell of the “Right sector” Aleksandr Sachko said the battalion will continue the fight.

KIEV, July 14. /TASS/. Hiding from law enforcement officers, extremists of the “Right sector” are moving from Mukachevo to the border with Poland. This was reported by the Ukrainian TV channel “Inter”.

“The epicenter of the events is moving, actually, to the North of Mukachevo. In the village of Verkhnaya Vyznitsa there are three new checkpoints. Staffed by soldiers of the national guard and police. It is 20 kilometers from the city. That is, we can assume that the fighters of the “Right sector” are leaving the foot of the mountain, where they were hiding”, – stated the report of the channel.

It was noted that extremists “every day are moving towards Lvov” and, most likely, keep the course to the border with Poland.

The leader of the Mukachevo cell of the “Right sector” Aleksandr Sachko said the intention of the battalion to continue the fight:

“It may take a year or two … Well, then, so be it. If someone thinks that the guys can’t live in the woods as long as necessary, believe me, there are enough opportunities to increase this formation by several thousand people,” – he said.

At the same time, Slovakia and Hungary took measures to strengthen their security on the border with Ukraine.

[This is interesting timing if they are headed to Poland, since the anniversary of the Volyn massacre (July 11, 1943) by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) of Poles, Ukrainians, Armenians, Jews, and others, just took place.]

Ukrainian prime minister Yatsenyuk defends the Right Sector attack on police

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ukraine’s prime minister pushed back against a pair of forces threatening to undermine his fragile government, likening members of Ukraine’s parliament to “lunatics” while defending a nationalist militia that is locked in a standoff with police.
***
As Yatsenyuk pushed for more U.S. investment, security forces in western Ukraine were locked in conflict with the nationalist Right Sector militia, which has accused local police of smuggling contraband across the border with Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. On Saturday, the group launched a deadly gun-and-grenade attack on police, sparking an ongiong standoff, and on Monday the group briefly took a 6-year-old boy hostage.
But the prime minister, in his remarks to the AP, appeared to echo the group’s accusations against police, while also denouncing violations of the law by any of the parties.

It wasn’t about the Right Sector. This is about corruption and smuggling and arms on the street,” Yatsenyuk said. “They supported smugglers and contraband, and everyone will be brought to justice for the crimes that have been committed.”

“Sorry, kid, but it’s necessary.” The details of taking a child hostage by the “Right sector”

A father talked about how his son was left bound in the woods

Alexander Sibirtsev ■ July 14 | 17:51

The correspondent of the newspaper “Vesti” talked with the boy and his father, who was taken hostage by the fighters of the “Right sector”. Vova Golovachko is 11 years old.

His father Vladimir Golovachko Sr. says that the day after the shooting in Mukachevo, the son was approached by a man with a short haircut on the street in their village on Bobovishe.

“He asked my son to show him the shortest way out of the village. For that he really gave him a chocolate bar and cookies. Son led him out. On the outskirts of the village they saw the police, who were already blocking the way out. Then the man took out a grenade with one hand, and with the other took Vova and shouted that the police get out of the way.

The police retreated to a distance, and he took Vova with him to the woods. Then the son was really terrified, of course. In the woods they were met by a second man. They tied Vova’s feet, tied the rope to a tree and said that someone will come for him soon. In parting, they said: sorry, kid, but we have to do this. And disappeared into the woods,” – said the boy’s father.

Earlier, the “Right Sector” made a statement that no one was taken hostage – “the kid was showing them the way out into the woods”.

Right Sector protest at the Presidential administration building in Kiev/TASS

Translated on July 14, 2015 by Kristina Rus
TASS (July 12, 2015)

The militants of the unit, hiding near Mukachevo, received the order to open fire in the event of an attack

More than 10 thousand militants of the “Right sector” (right-wing extremist organization banned in Russia ) were mobilized throughout Ukraine. This was announced by the speaker of the Ukrainian volunteer corps (DUK) “Right sector,” Andrey Sarasin on the TV channel “112”.

“More than 10 thousand activists have been mobilized throughout Ukraine. As for Mukachevo: we managed to evacuate the wounded and one killed. Now there are negotiations,” – he said.

According to Sharaskin, “Right sector” is actively organizing checkpoints on the roads leading to Transcarpathia, in order to prevent police from sending reinforcements to Mukachevo.

The speaker of the DUC assured that the radicals do not want to escalate the situation, but all the militants of the “Right sector” left the positions in the zone of military operation in the Donetsk region and are now at their bases in full combat readiness.

The militants of the “Right sector” hiding near the town of Mukachevo, Transcarpathian region, received the order to open fire if attacked, reported the correspondent of TV channel “Inter” from location.

” The “Right sector” again showed its bandit face in Mukachevo. Kiev does not want to break with the neo-Nazis. Trying to put a lid on it. Soon it will be too late” – Konstantin Dolgov, Russian Foreign Ministry Commissioner for human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

“Now in Mukachevo the forces of regional police and National guard are concentrated. Fighters of “Right sector”, according to the latest information, received the order to open fire in case of attack,” – said the correspondent. According to him, the police and the national guard surrounded the mountain, where the “Right sector” fighters were hiding.

According to the latest data, during a shootout between security forces, [security guards of] local businesses and the “Right sector” in Mukachevo on July 11, two soldiers of the “Right sector” were killed, four more were wounded. 13 people are now in the hospital.

Previously, a PM and advisor to the President of Ukraine for humanitarian affairs, Olga Bogomolets voiced the demands of the supporters of the “Right sector”, who are protesting near the presidential administration:

“To lay down parliamentary mandate and thus stop legalizing the authorities; to dissolve the coalition; to adopt a law on impeachment of the President; to remove parliamentary immunity; to declare early elections (parliament); not to accept changes to the Constitution”.

On Sunday, the group threatened to bring 17 battalions to Kiev.

“In Transcarpathia for 20 years contraband is covered up by the police, for the year of Avakov’s post, the situation there has not changed. It also has not changed in the country as a whole. Lustration wasn’t completed, corruption is blooming. We do not intend to stand peacefully, we will communicate with the authorities differently, harshly” – Artem Skoropadsky, press secretary of the “Right sector”

[Besides a russophobic agenda and its de facto function as an extrajudicial muscle for business disputes in today’s Ukraine, where a weapon grants authority, and its key role as the engine of Maidan, the “Right Sector” presents itself as an agent of change for social justice, with slogans appealing to many rightfully disgruntled Ukrainian citizens, which is why many of them supported Maidan – KR]

On July 11 in the town of Mukachevo (Transcarpathian region of Ukraine) the militants “Right sector” attacked a cafe at a sports club, owned by local MP Mikhail Lagno, as well as traffic police patrol post.

In the attacks and ensuing skirmishes of extremists with law enforcement there were killed and wounded. “Right sector” reported the death of two fighters. Surviving militants refused to surrender and were blocked, the representatives of the anti-terrorist center of the SBU were negotiating with them. As a result the “Right sector” roused its supporters on “combat alert”. Group leader, Dmitry Yarosh called on to protest until the authorities, who, according to the radicals, are guilty of events in Mukachevo are arrested.

DPR commemorating the Volyn massacre of Poles at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists [Video – ENG voiceover]

From Fort Russ

Original video from the day of remembrance – link. Translated by Tatzhit.

VIDEO (English voiceover).
(for those that prefer to read – transcript below):

TRANSCRIPT:

Spokesman: Good evening, our citizens and guests. We have gathered here today to commemorate the victims of Volyn. <72 years ago>, on July 11th, 1943, the genocide there was started. 150 Polish towns and villages were attacked by Ukrainian nationalists, which led to a huge number of Poles, Ukrainians, and people of other nationalities being cruelly exterminated by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army . They were killing women, children, the elderly. This crime cannot be forgotten or forgiven. Unfortunately, in the past year, the people of Donetsk People’s Republic have first-hand experienced ethnic cleansing, the pain of losing their loved ones, suffering of the blockade. This genocide therefore has special meaning for us, as we understand the feelings of the Polish people on this anniversary, and feel great compassion for them. Now we ask people to lay flowers at the Memorial to the victims of fascism. I give the floor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Aleksandr Igorevich Kofman.

Aleksandr Kofman: In 1945, a special operation was successfully carried out by a man born in Donetsk – Alexander Demidenko has eliminated one of the leaders of the Ukrainian insurgent Army, one of the organizers of the Volyn massacre, Dmitry Klitchkovskiy. 70 years ago, we took part in destroying fascism for the first time, and now, 70 years later we have to fight it again. In Volyn, people that died were Polish, Ukrainian, Jewish, Armenian, Russian. Fascism is not divided by ethnicity – it is an ideology of bastards. And now, 70 years later, it needs to be destroyed again. I am glad that Europe is waking up to this fact – maybe not openly yet, but many Europeans come here and join our Army and fight fascism in our ranks. The common people there remember what fascism is – hopefully we can remind the leaders of Europe of this as well. Today we honor the memory of those that died – this is a monument to the victims of fascism; not just for Volyn  massacre but to everybody who died at the hands of fascist invaders back then. It’s hard for me to talk . Thank you for coming here today. Let’s show the world that Donbass remembers what fascism is, and won’t let it take over our homes.

Spokesman: Now we will give the floor to Member of Parliament, the head of the Communist Party of the Donetsk People’s Republic Boris Alekseevich Litvinov.

Boris Alekseevich Litvinov: Dear friends. 72 years ago, a horrible thing happened -civilians were targets of genocide and ethnic cleansing. And the reason for this was that historically, hatred between nationalities was created. And today’s ideologues of fascism also take root from the traditions of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army that committed these atrocities 72 years ago. Their atrocities were already condemned in Nuremberg trials, and today they come back – I think it’s repeating history. Today, these people have been funded by American money and supported by some European leaders – the very same followers of those fascist ideologies have come to our land and are doing the same thing they did before! What happened to Europe? What happened to everybody? If they had been condemned by the entire world  back then – what happened now? But we here today and I trust that our Polish friends here with those will tell the truth to the international community and today all of us can tell the world – you can’t support reborn National-Socialist dictatorship that illegally seized power in Kiev! They’re doing the same thing that they been doing 72 years ago!
I trust that fascism in the world will be defeated. I call on you, I call on the international community, to let our fledgling republics to live freely as they want –  the population has voted for it <at the referendum>. We want to live in friendship and peace with all nationalities in the world. I grieve for the victims of Volyn massacre and the I’m sure fascism will be beaten despite everything. Thank you very much.

Spokesman: We voice our gratitude to you for participating in our evening of remembrance. Please accept our sincerest condolences. Today, everybody feels compassion for the victims of Volyn. Let us commemorate them within a minute of silence.

Over the past year, the people of the Donbass have experienced firsthand all the suffering inflicted by fascists. The shelling of civilian areas and blockade has claimed thousands of lives. Today we’re standing up for our peaceful future – we believe that all the heroes that fought fascism in the past, and are fighting it now, will not be forgotten, and will always be remembered in history and in the hearts of each one of us. We grieve together with the families of those who perished in this struggle.
White color is a symbol of purity, and children are our hope for the future. In remembrance of everybody that died, we the release balloons into the sky – they are a symbol of our hope for a bright and peaceful future.

We are grateful to everybody who has joined us today. We wish peace, love and kindness to you and your families.

Vltchek: Ecuador fights for humanity, while Greece fights for Greece

Global Research, July 08, 2015
CounterPunch 7 July 2015

Greece is white, it is European, and therefore eyes of entire Western “progressive” world are now directed towards Athens: will its government dare to default, would Greece leave euro-zone and eventually the European Union? As if the answer to this question could change the world; as if Athens is where the fate of humanity will be decided.

Some 10 thousand kilometers away, Ecuador is predominantly indigenous, and therefore, inhabited by ‘un-people’, to borrow from George Orwell’s colorful terminology. Battered by its own, mainly Euro-centric and pale-skinned ‘elites’ who are enjoying extremely close links with both EU and the United States, Ecuador and its determinedly left-wing government can count very little on international solidarity, especially on the camaraderie from ‘so-called progressive’ movements in the West.

After all, non-white, non-Western people are expected to suffer. Even the left in the West is ‘accustomed to’ their agony.

Frankly, almost nobody in Europe or in the United States wants those left wing governments in Latin America, in Asia or in Africa, to succeed. That is ‘well hidden secret’, or at least ‘an uncomfortable truth’!

China, South Africa, Venezuela, Ecuador and other countries all over the world have been addressed and treated in the most despicable, patronizing, and even racist way by so-called left wing individuals and groups in the West.

The Left got thoroughly defunct in both Europe and in North America. But it continues to be distressingly self-righteous, self-indulged, bossy and arrogant. It does not govern and does not inspire almost anybody, anymore. It became shamefully cowardly and lazy. But it behaves as if it would be holding some God-given right to judge and advice others: those who do fight, those who do inspire and those who do govern! It is evident that it wants non-Western socialist and communist governments and movements, those that are proudly governing all over the world, to go straight to hell!

“If we collapsed, let others collapse as well!” Is unpronounced motto.

It is because even the Left in Europe and US is constructed on Christian and Euro-centric mind frame, with exceptionalism and supremacist sentiments at its core.

Of course such things are never pronounced in Paris, London, Rome, or New York, but there is a perfect consensus there, that only the Western thinkers and leaders are qualified and should be trusted with ‘saving the world’. And only they ought to be allowed to decide, which country qualifies to be called socialist or communist, democratic or tyrannical, progressive or regressive.

Unable to lead, and most likely unwilling to govern, too lethargic and intellectually spent, most of Western ‘progressive’ thinkers are constantly regurgitating lunatic economic and political theories that no one in other parts of the world, especially the poor world, would ever take seriously, let alone want to implement. Those Western ‘progressive leaders’ are also demanding grotesque levels of purity from the Latin American and Asian left-wing leaders. Simultaneously, they demand great sacrifice from non-Western people: “Let us consume and live high-life, as poor us, we cannot help it. But let them care about environment and live in austerity.”

***

And so, while Greece votes on its financial future, Ecuador is facing one of the most vicious subversions in its history. It is facing it alone. It appears that everyone from non-Latin American left who matters is now in Athens. As far as I know, there are no solidarity ‘delegates’ descending on Quito!

Ecuador has now been abandoned, not unlike Venezuela was, for already quite some time.

I was recently invited to speak on an important television channel based in Iran, to talk about Palestine and Greece. I refused. My argument was clear: both Palestine and Greece already received enough solidarity from ‘us’, in Latin America. Now our revolutions are facing great threats. They are being attacked. We are human, too! We also need help; we need solidarity.

To give credit where credit is due, Iranian editor put me on hold, after expressing her concern about the situation in Latin America. Few minutes later she came back to me, via Skype: “I talked to our director and he told me to interview you on Ecuador. He said: they are our brothers. We fall together, or we will survive together!”

Naturally, such statements and gestures are remembered for the rest of the life!

But that’s Teheran, not London or Paris or Chicago!

***

My priority now is Ecuador. My priority is Latin America. This is where I see great battle for the future of humanity taking place. Here and in Asia. Definitely not in Europe!

Latin American governments here are not perfect. Chinese government is not perfect either. But they are doing all they can, after decades and centuries of plunder, after Europe, the United States, in unison with local elites and multinational companies, were pillaging and raping everything “south of the border”.

Corruption could not be eradicated in one year, or in one decade. Imported religious and moral corruptions were shaping entire “Latin America” (which is, thankfully, becoming less and less ‘Latin’ these days) by murderous and greedy Westerners, for generations. Things can improve, greatly, in one decade or even in one year, but horror structures built during long centuries could not be fully reversed. ‘The Process’ has to be in place for many years, uninterrupted.

Yes, we are not perfect, but we are trying to get better as we go. We are moving forward! We are trying to, going and falling, passing through fire, filth, conspiracies and intrigues. We are moving forward, damn it!

***

Ecuadorian elites are protesting and they are sabotaging everything great that was done by Correa and his administration. Many think that the coup is in the air.

Not one word about progress; new highways and airports, modern hospitals and schools, medical posts, countless playgrounds for children, free culture, libraries… Right wing in Ecuador owns most of the media. Not much positive is written about Ecuador by Western ‘progressive’ media outlets, either. We at Counterpunch being a great exception!

Not much good is written about China, Vietnam, Eritrea, South Africa, Zimbabwe or Iran. To Western purists, all these countries are not good enough, not socialist enough, not as they define socialism or communism, not as they define democracy! 6 or 7 thousand years of Chinese culture mean nothing. Everything has to be measured and defined only by Western standards.

Russia is different: it is not socialist at all (although it adopted great internationalist Soviet foreign policy), but it is predominantly white, and so it gets plenty of emotional support, fiery speeches and declarations of love and support.

Many Chinese comrades I spoke to in Beijing fully gave up on the Western left; they see it, mainly, as the most reactionary force (ideologically), when it comes to non-white left wing countries and governments. And I couldn’t agree more!

***

Greece should default. That fortress, fascist European Union, should not bully it.

But Greece should fight for internationalist, global ideals.

While we all know, that what it is fighting for is just its own gain… or for survival of its high standards of living.

When things were going well, when money was flowing in, when Greek farmers began driving latest models of German cars on smooth motorways, Greek people were not protesting. And they were not asking where the money came from. It mainly came from plundering on non-Western world, of ‘non-people’. That was fine, wasn’t it?

I was in Greece, recently. I spoke to many people, including those from their left, mainly from the left. Almost nobody had any clue about what is going on in Latin America. No one cared. Even in Turkey they are monitoring what goes on in Caracas or La Paz.

But not in Athens – in Athens nobody gives a flying f…!

Many were still complaining bitterly about illegal immigration from Africa! Don’t those writers who are now writing flattering essays, glorifying Greek people, know that? Or they pretend not to see and hear?

Greece is fighting for its own goals. Its incomes dropped, from 1.400 to 800 euros a month, per capita, in many cases. Terrible, but in many African nations where money to support Greek farmers often came from (by EU finishing African agriculture), incomes are sitting at around 30 euros per month. I tried to address these issues in Athens, but encountered stone faces and total bewilderment, even hostility. I was told: “But we are used to different standards!”

And therefore I repeat: what is happening in Greece is not some left wing, internationalist revolution.

Greeks are fighting for Greece.

Latin America is fighting for humanity! It never exploited anybody. It sent doctors, teachers, all over the world. It sent oil to the poor, even in the United States. It supplied unfortunate countries like East Timor with trainers. It offered solidarity to Palestine, Iran, so many others!

***

If Ecuador will get under direct fire, I will go back, and I will stand by it, doing all I could to support it. And if the Western Left will do nothing to help, I will break, fully and categorically, all my ties with it!

As many wrote: Greece will survive. “It is, after all, in Europe”. Even when it is down, it is, somehow, up.

We, “down here”, will not have another chance. And if we fall, entire non-Western world will fall with us!

Israeli General calls for providing arms to Assad “to save the regime” against “extremist Muslim groups”

Global Research, July 08, 2015

A number of Israeli generals and political commentators have called on the Netanyahu government to provide military aid to Bashar Al-Assad’s regime in Syria in order to prevent its downfall. It is an unprecedented campaign to “Save the Assad regime”.

According to General Azer Tsfrir, for example, allowing the Assad regime to fall would mean turning Syria into a “black hole” in which the border areas could become launch pads for operations against Israel. Writing in Haaretz, the former military intelligence officer suggested that the fall of Assad would subject Syria to the hegemony of extremist Muslim groups which have declared their desire to destroy the Zionist state. They would, he claimed, become a first degree strategic threat.

Tsfrir stressed that the most serious outcome of a Syrian takeover by extremists would be the undermining of stability in Jordan, the government of which is an important ally of both Israel and the West. Lebanon’s sectarian and ideological balance would also be disrupted, he said.

The Netanyahu government should provide military aid to the Assad regime directly or indirectly in order to guarantee that it does not fall, Tsfrir urged. “Israel should overlook the fact that the Assad regime is using the assistance of Iranian troops and elements from Hezbollah to help him in his battle for survival.” Indeed, he added, providing aid to Assad may lead to a rapprochement between Israel and both Iran and Hezbollah, as well as the Shia bloc in general.

Arab affairs commentator Jacky Houki, meanwhile, said on the Yizrael Pulse website last Friday that the continuation of the Assad regime is the guarantee for calm on the Syrian border. Israel, he explained, could exert pressure and impose economic sanctions to deter the Assad regime in case it behaved in a manner deemed harmful to security, whereas military pressure and economic sanctions do not in any way deter the radical Sunni Islamic groups. Houki believes that Israel prefers the pragmatism of Hezbollah to such Sunni groups. The Shia militia may be fierce fighters, he argued, but they would not carry out brutal attacks likes those perpetrated by the Sunnis. He accused the Netanyahu government of irresponsibility by not arresting the decline of the Assad regime. He warned that all settlers in Israel may end up paying dearly for the cost of the fall of the government in Damascus.

U.S.-orchestrated coup attempt in Ecuador

Global Research, July 07, 2015

Washington wants all independent governments toppled – regime change by US-orchestrated color revolutions, coups or naked aggression.

Ecuador is in the eye of the storm. Obama’s earlier 2010 attempt to forcibly unseat popular President Rafael Correa failed.

He’s trying again. Ecuadorean democracy is being attacked. Since early June, US-orchestrated right-wing protests (mainly in Quito and Guayaquil) erupted. They continue at times violently to replace Correa with fascist rule.

They began on the pretext of announced higher inheritance and capital gains taxes affecting about 2% of the population – the Law to Redistribute the Wealth now being debated after Correa halted its implementation to make rich Ecuadorians pay more along with creating more social enterprises, collectives and cooperatives.

Protest leaders want Correa forcibly ousted. Interior Minister Jose Serrano revealed a plot to storm the presidential palace, block airports and bridges on the Colombian and Peruvian borders, as well as attack security forces.

Serrano said opposition lawmakers Andres Paez and Lourdes Tiban conspired with former Col. Mario Pazmino to instigate violence and chaos during protests.

Pazmino was former army military intelligence head – “very close to the CIA,” according to Correa. In 2008, he was sacked for colluding with Colombia’s bombing of Ecuador.

The coup plotters’ plan involved advancing from north and south to converge around Quito’s presidential palace – intending to occupy it forcibly.

They planned to use pointed sticks to break police shields, throw balloons filled with paint for police to lose visibility, pepper-spray police horses and dogs” to scare and scatter them, Serrano explained.

They intended publishing letters in two national newspapers – El Universo and La Hora – as well as anti-government letters to Pope Francis to undermine his forthcoming visit, an American tour beginning in Ecuador on July 5 followed by Bolivia, Paraguay, Cuba and the United States.

Serrano said “if they were not able to seize power, (they) would have created national chaos” to force Pope Francis to cancel his visit, as well as “maintain…indefinite protest(s).

Correa commented on “clear evidence of a plot meant to take over the (presidential) palace. They want to defeat violently a government internationally and domestically supported,” he explained.

They’ll be defeated like September 30, 2010 plotters (called 30S) “peacefully but firmly,” Correa said. “We are more, many more,” he stressed.

On Thursday, violent clashes erupted. Right-wing extremists attacked Ecuadorean police near Quito’s presidential palace. Their plan to breach their lines failed. Four officers sustained injuries.

Journalists were attacked. Culture Minister Guillaume Long said “(t)oday we are facing (a) real threat of destabilization. It is fundamental (for) the people of Ecuador to come here and (defend) democracy. We’re not going to allow more coups.”

Thousands of Correa supporters rallied Thursday night to defend their government in Quito’s Independence Plaza, its main square (the Carondolet).

Correa addressed them saying “(w)e are ready to defend the revolution against coup plotters. We will remain firm in defending the revolution against the ultra-right.”

“(M)obilizations to tire us out…to prevent us from governing (won’t) work. We are willing to defend our history and our citizen’s revolution. Here we have democracy. Here the majority rule and the past will never return.”

Washington wants Correa’s government replaced by a regime it controls, neo-colonial rule most Ecuadoreans oppose – following the pattern of earlier failed Venezuelan protests.

So far, popular support for Correa prevails. At the same time, dark forces headquartered in Washington never end their dirty game for unchallenged global dominance – a plot to create unfit to live in ruler-serf societies worldwide.

2014: US closed Syrian Embassy; pledged continued support for death squads

Brandon Turbeville
Activist Post
March 19, 2014

In yet another low reached by the American government, the Obama administration on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the Syrian government’s diplomatic and consular missions in the United States. The U.S.is now requiring all personnel who are not legal U.S. residents to leave the country.

Essentially, the order closes the Syrian embassy in Washington, D.C. as well as its honorary consulates in Troy, Michigan and Houston, Texas.

The decision is alleged to have come as a response to the Assad government’s recent announcement that it will cease consular service for Syrians who reside in the United States.

U.S. Special Envoy To Syria, Daniel Rubenstein, stated, “We have determined it is unacceptable for individuals appointed by that regime to conduct diplomatic or consular operations in the United States.”

Rubenstein continued by stating that the United States would continue to support the genocidal “rebels” and death squads currently terrorizing the nation when he said that “The United States will continue to assist those seeking change in Syria, to help end the slaughter, and to resolve the crisis through negotiations — for the benefit of the Syrian people.”

This decision comes fresh on the heels of the recent insult of limiting the movement of the Syrian envoy to the United Nations, Bashar Al-Jaafari, to the distance of 25 miles within New York City.

A pro-death squad organization, Coalition for a Democratic Syria, expressed pleasure at the U.S. government’s decision to restrict the movement of Jaafari, stating that he has engaged in “a series of propaganda tours” within the United States in order to “mislead and sow discord” among Syrians living in the U.S.

In the end, the closing of the Syrian embassy is only one more sad chapter in the book of the Syrian tragedy, itself entirely directed, funded, and initiated by Western powers and Anglo-American networks.

Orange Revolution, conceived by ex-air force officer Jack Duvall and producer/director Steve York, received mixed reviews ….the revolution itself was disgorged by the population, and so was the film they made.  “I found that most impassioned youth were asleep by the second reel,” complained one insider.  These bureaucrats, known as coup “shaman” to their prodigy, have little artistic “street cred” …”HO Hum,” yawned one observer. “They sucked all the fun out of it, I mean hell, I met my girlfriend on the big day…my friends and I got drunk and had a real  happy ending ….this film obviously sucks by comparison.”

“Gene Sharp started out the seminar by saying ‘Strategic nonviolent struggle is all about political power.’ And I thought, ‘Boy is this guy speaking my language,’ that is what armed struggle is about.”—Col. Robert Helvey

WASHINGTON, March 19, 2005—The U.S. government and allied forces’ year-end installation of Victor Yushchenko as president of Ukraine have completed the field-testing of the “Postmodern Coup.” Employing and fine-tuning the same sophisticated techniques used in Serbia in 2000 and Georgia in 2003 (and unsuccessfully in Belarus in 2001), it is widely expected that the United States will attempt to apply the same methods throughout the former Soviet Union.

“We have to confront those forces that are committed to reproduce a Georgian or Ukrainian scenario,” Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev stated on December 26, the day of the coup, “we’ll not allow the import of Rose [Georgian] and Orange [Ukrainian] revolutions in our country.” One day later, the Kazakh government launched a criminal case against the Soros Foundation for tax evasion, one of the coups’ financiers. And last spring, Uzbek President Islam Karimov accused Soros of overseeing the revolution in Georgia, and condemning his efforts to “fool and brainwash” young intelligentsia in his own country, banned the group. The same networks are also increasingly active in South America, Africa, and Asia. Top targets include Venezuela, Mozambique, and Iran, among others.

The method employed is usefully described by The Guardian’s Ian Traynor in a November 26, 2004, article entitled “US campaign behind the turmoil in Kiev,” during the first phase of the coup.

With their websites and stickers, their pranks and slogans aimed at banishing widespread fear of a corrupt regime, the democracy guerrillas of the Ukrainian Pora youth movement have already notched up a famous victory—whatever the outcome of the dangerous stand-off in Kiev.

[T]he campaign is an American creation, a sophisticated and brilliantly conceived exercise in western branding and mass marketing that, in four countries in four years, has been used to try to salvage rigged elections and topple unsavory regimes.

Funded and organized by the US government, deploying US consultancies, pollsters, diplomats, the two big American parties and US non-government organizations, the campaign was first used in Europe in Belgrade in 2000 to beat Slobodan Milosevic at the ballot box.

Richard Miles [pictured left], the US ambassador in Belgrade, played a key role. And by last year, as US ambassador in Tbilisi, he repeated the trick in Georgia, coaching Mikhail Saakashvili in how to bring down Eduard Shevardnadze. Ten months after the success in Belgrade, the US ambassador in Minsk, Michael Kozak, a veteran of similar operations in central America, notably in Nicaragua, organized a near identical campaign to try to defeat the Belarus hardman, Alexander Lukashenko.

The operation – engineering democracy through the ballot box and civil disobedience – is now so slick that the methods have matured into a template for winning other people’s elections

Tiananmen Square, Beijing, 1989

Much of the coup apparatus is the same that was used in the overthrow of President Fernando Marcos of the Philippines in 1986, the Tiananmen Square destabilization in 1989, and Vaclav Havel’s “Velvet revolution” in Czechoslovakia in 1989. As in these early operations, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and its primary arms, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI), played a central role. The NED was established by the Reagan Administration in 1983, to do overtly what the CIA had done covertly, in the words of one its legislative drafters, Allen Weinstein. The Cold War propaganda and operations center, Freedom House, now chaired by former CIA director James Woolsey, has also been involved, as were billionaire George Soros’ foundations, whose donations always dovetail those of the NED.

What is new about the template bears on the use of the Internet (in particular chat rooms, instant messaging, and blogs) and cell phones (including text-messaging), to rapidly steer angry and suggestible “Generation X” youth into and out of mass demonstrations and the like—a capability that only emerged in the mid-1990s. “With the crushing ubiquity of cell phones, satellite phones, PCs, modems and the Internet,” Laura Rosen emphasized in Salon Magazine on February 3, 2001,”the information age is shifting the advantage from authoritarian leaders to civic groups.” She might have mentioned the video games that helped create the deranged mindset of these “civic groups.” The repeatedly emphasized role played by so-called “Discoshaman” and his girlfriend “Tulipgirl,” in assisting the “Orange Revolution” through their aptly named blog, “Le Sabot Post-Modern,” is indicative of the technical and sociological components involved.

A Civilian Revolution in Military Affairs

The emphasis on the use of new communication technologies to rapidly deploy small groups, suggests what we are seeing is civilian application of Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s “Revolution in Military Affairs” doctrine, which depends on highly mobile small group deployments “enabled” by “real time” intelligence and communications. Squads of soldiers taking over city blocks with the aid of “intelligence helmet” video screens that give them an instantaneous overview of their environment, constitute the military side. Bands of youth converging on targeted intersections in constant dialogue on cell phones constitute the doctrine’s civilian application.

This parallel should not be surprising since the US military and National Security Agency subsidized the development of the Internet, cellular phones, and software platforms. From their inception, these technologies were studied and experimented with in order to find the optimal use in a new kind of warfare. The “revolution” in warfare that such new instruments permit has been pushed to the extreme by several specialists in psychological warfare. Although these military utopians have been working in high places (for example the RAND Corporation) for a very long time, to a large extent they only took over some of the most important command structures of the US military apparatus with the victory of the neoconservatives in the Pentagon of Donald Rumsfeld.
